You may be asking yourself this obvious question: Why did Pat stop being a college professor and start being a financial planner?
Here is Pat’s answer:
“Like many aspects of modern life, our financial world has become increasingly complicated. Consumers are given more choices and more responsibility in making financial decisions but they don’t have the information and experience to make wise choices. After almost thirty years of teaching and research on financial topics in an academic setting, I decided to work directly with people to help them in making financial decisions.”
“I founded Rudolph Financial Planning to provide advice to consumers and help them make choices that will make their lives better. My clients pay me directly on an hourly, as-needed basis. They know that my focus is on them and their needs.”
“The change from my beginnings in 1976 as a new Ph.D. with a specialty in monetary economics from the University of North Carolina to an independent financial planner was gradual. In twenty-five years on the faculty at the University of Alabama and four years as a visiting professor at American University, I taught classes to students from freshman to Ph.D. students in the areas of financial institutions, corporate finance and real estate. In the last ten years, as I began teaching personal finance, my research focus shifted to understanding how consumers make financial decisions. I have presented or published papers that look at retirement planning, savings decisions and household decision making. This work has given me insight on a broad basis that I can now use in advising clients,” continues Pat.
“As part of my change from academic to financial planner, I earned the right to use the CFP® mark of distinction from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. I am an active member of the Financial Planning Association, the largest organization of professionals dedicated to championing the financial planning process. I joined the Garrett Planning Network because I share their commitment to provide professional, objective and easy-to-access financial advice to anyone regardless of income or level of net worth.”
